Irish Conference of Folklore and Ethnology / Tionól Béaloideasa agus Eitneolaíochta

Saturday, 26 November 2016

The Irish Conference of Folklore and Ethnology 2016 features panels dealing with oral narrative, vernacular dwellings, place-name lore, charms and material culture in Ireland.

The conference incorporates the annual Almqvist Lecture, entitled 'I haven't been that far, but I've been to America', delivered by Professor Maureen Murphy of Hofstra University, NY. Professor Murphy's keynote lecture deals with the folklore of Irish women's emigration at the turn of the twentieth century, and in particular the returning 'Yank' - the self-dowered emigrant woman returning home.
