Paul A. Roth

Paul A. Roth is Distinguished Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of California-Santa Cruz. He recently visited UCD Humanities Institute to give a lecture entitled 'Reviving Philosophy of History'.

Paul A. Roth has published widely on subjects including the philosophy of history (primarily historical explanation), philosophy of social science, naturalized epistemology, and Quine. Recent work includes “The Pasts,” (History and Theory 2012), “Silence of the Norms: The Missing Historiography of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions,” (Studies in History and Philosophy of Science 2013), and “What Would It Be To Be A Norm?,” (Normativity and Naturalism in the Social Sciences, ed. Mark Risjord, Routledge 2016). He is currently completing a book on narrative explanation and history.
