Viewing life sideways from the bottom up: An historical archaeology of brothels and boarding houses in 19th century Philadelphia.

Through the application of archaeology and gender theory to material culture and by including studies on spatiality and historical sources, this project will create a nuanced view towards the understanding of working-class women in Philadelphia, PA during the 19th century in relation to aspects such as identity, ethnicity, and social status.
