Dr Shane McMahon

Shane McMahon is a musicologist and historian. He received his PhD in historical musicology, funded by the Irish Research Council, from UCD in 2015. From initial work on the cultural conceptions of time underpinning Wagnerian music drama and German modernism, his research has expanded to explore aspects of Western music history through the frameworks of global history, deep history and anthropology. His current work focuses on deep history and musicology, sonata theory, liminality, and western music and the apocalyptic traditions. As occasional lecturer, he has designed and taught graduate research courses in historiography and formal analysis at the UCD School of Music.
