Always Elsewhere: The Self and the Psychogeography of Mid-century Irish and English Women Poets

I research English and Irish women poets who published during the 1930s and 1940s, which for my thesis include Kathleen Raine, Ruth Pitter, Elizabeth Daryush, Temple Lane, Freda Laughton, Blanaid Salkeld, and Rhoda Coghill.  The focus of my thesis is on how these women see and construct their creative selves and how this constructed self fares when brought out into the real world.  My thesis explores this through the psychogeography they construct in their poems, particularly around liminal spaces such as the suburb and the beach.
