Between the Page and the World: English and Irish Women Poets, 1930-1950

My thesis focuses on how English and Irish women poets navigated hostile literary cultures between 1930 and 1950. I examine how they articulated their conception of the female poet in their work and its influence upon social and cultural engagements. I also engage with the reception of their work and how this impacted their poetry and later reception. My work uses the case studies of four poets: Elizabeth Daryush, Temple Lane, Ruth Pitter, and Freda Laughton.
