Professor Anthony Staines

  • Major research activities are in the areas of health services research, cancer epidemiology and environmental epidemiology. He is the Irish PI on the Epilymph project, a large international case-control study of leukaemias and lymphomas. Within this project he leads the Interlymph Multiple Myeloma consortium, an international collaboration between all the recent case-control studies of myeloma. His two major current projects are the Transfusion Research Network of Ireland, a network of researchers, clinicians and blood service staff on blood supply and blood utilisation, and the Economic Impact of Cancer, a major new study of the economic burden of colo-rectal cancer in Ireland. He is also developing a Resource Allocation Model for the Health Services Executive and on a plan to introduce colo-rectal cancer screening for the National Cancer Forum. He has brought grants worth over €4,250,000 to UCD.
