- Neighbourhoods, residents’ associations and community development (€40,000) funded by the Royal Irish Academy (with Paula Russell and Declan Redmond) (2003-2006).
- Spatial policy in rural Ireland: an investigation of the interaction of land-use planning and rural development (€4,500) funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences (2002-2004).

Professor Alun Jones
- Coordinator and principal scientist on several EU funded projects totalling over Euro 1.7 million including ‘Innovation, Diversification and European Agricultural Situations (IDEAS).
- 2003-4: Awarded a Leverhulme Research Fellowship to investigate the narrative basis of EU external relations policy in the Mediterranean neighbourhood.
