Scenes from the Dongba Script

by Siobhán Cleary

Siobhán Cleary will be introducing us to her latest composition, part of a ballet, which is based on folktales from Southern China, and incorporates folk songs from Yunnan province. Scenes from a Dongba Script uses traditional Irish instruments to ingeniously emulate the sounds of traditional Chinese instruments! This was the culmination of her visit to the Naxi Orchestra! She recently curated the highly-acclaimed NewSoundWorlds mini-festival in Paris and was elected to Aosdána, Ireland’s state-sponsored academy of creative artists, in 2008.
