Irish Folklore/Béaloideas Éireann
The study of folklore involves the investigation of traditional cultural forms and expressions in society, in their contemporary as well as historical manifestations.
Irish Folklore forms part of the BA Programme in the College of Arts and Celtic Studies. Seventeen undergraduate modules are currently offered by the subject. Students can take Irish Folklore for their degree as a major, joint major or minor subject. Irish Folklore modules form part of courses such as Celtic Civilization and Irish Studies, and they can also be taken as elective modules. First year modules include: Introduction to Folklore; Folklore and the Imagination; Traditional Storytelling: Tellers and Their Tales.
Irish Folklore offers a taught one-year Higher Diploma and a taught one-year Graduate Diploma in Irish Folklore. Both the Higher Diploma and the Graduate Diploma may act as potential pathways to a graduate research degree in Irish Folklore. For further information, see Diploma Programmes:
Study Abroad
UCD offers a number of study abroad programmes at BA and postgraduate level managed by the university's international office.
Every year ERASMUS students from a range of European countries and JYA students from the USA, Canada and Australia take modules in Irish Folklore at UCD.
