There are over twenty members of full-time staff with expertise in Modern Irish, Linguistics, Irish Folklore, Early Irish, Welsh, and Celtic Civilisaton. See staff link profiles for specific information on research areas.

The Language and Multimedia Resource centre, UCD Delargy Centre for Irish Folklore and the National Folklore Collection, Irish Dialect Archive and online Early Irish Project are some examples of the research facilities open to Postgraduate students within the School, while the vast research resources on UCD campus including the Micheál Ó Cléirigh manuscript collection in the Micheál Ó Cléirigh institute and excellent library facilities, consolidate a forum for the highest standards in research practices at national and international level. The links the School shares with State and cross-border bodies ensure access to valuable digital and hard copy archival material.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the School, national and global links are a central element in exposing students to the widest possible network of resources and expertise. These links include University of Pécs, Univ. ELTE, Budapest, Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, Germany, University of Iceland, Reykjavik, Hungary; Université Michel de Montaigne, Bordeaux; University of Philadelphia, USA; University of Auckland, New Zealand; University of Worcester, England; Université Lumière, Lyon; Harvard University; Cambridge University; University of Ulster, alongside many state and public body organisations.

Funding / Scholarships:

Research students and staff in the School have an excellent track record of obtaining scholarships and funding. Students may also be given opportunities to undertake part-time teaching work on the undergraduate curriculum.
