Dalton Philips, CEO, Morrisons

Dalton Philips graduated from University College Dublin with a degree in urban geography and retail distribution.

Dalton is the Chief Executive Officer of WM Morrisons Supermarkets plc, the UK’s fourth largest food retailer with over 400 stores, over 130,000 staff and 9 million customers a week.

Listed on the FTSE 100 Index on the London Stockexchange, Morrisons has a market capitalisation of £6.7 billion.

Prior to joining Morrisons, Dalton was Chief Operating Officer of Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada’s largest food distributor and a leading provider of general merchandise, pharmacy and financial products and services. Loblaw has more than 1,000 stores and a turnover of £18bn. Prior to that he was Chief Executive of Brown Thomas in Ireland.

Between 1998 and 2005 he worked for Wal-Mart’s international division holding a range of commercial positions, rising to Chief Operating Officer in Germany. Dalton started his career as a store manager in New Zealand with Jardine Matheson and was later regional director of the Company’s Spanish supermarket division.
