David J. O’Reilly, Chairman National Petroleum Council
David J. O’Reilly graduated from University College Dublin with a BEng (Chemical Engineering) and was also awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science degree.
David served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Chevron Corporation (Formerly, ChevronTexaco Corp.), a holding company of Chevron Energy Solutions LP and Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LLC from 2000 to 2009.
During this period David turned Chevron into the second largest U.S. oil company, mainly through the 2001 acquisition of Texaco and the 2005 acquisition of Unocal.
David began his career as a Process Engineer for Chevron Research and over the course of his 41-year career with Chevron, he served in positions of increasing seniority, responsible at various stages for the corporation's strategic planning, US refining and worldwide exploration and production before his appointment as Chairman and CEO.
David is currently chairman of the National Petroleum Council and is a Director of Bechtel Group, Inc. and Saudi Aramco, the Saudi Arabian Oil Company. He serves as a Director of American Petroleum Institute, San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors, Bay Area Council and the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation. He also serves as a Director of the Peterson Institute for International Economics and the Eisenhower Fellowships Board of Trustees.
He is a member of The Business Council, The Business Roundtable, JPMorgan International Council, World Economic Forum’s International Business Council, the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals International Advisory Board, the American Society of Corporate Executives and the Trilateral Commission.
David is a UCD Adjunct Professor of Chemical and Bioprocess Engineering and Chair of the University's Energy Advisory Board.
