Professor Orla Feely Statement on the Announcement of the Irish Research Council’s New €29.6 Million Laureate Awards
Commenting on the announcement of the Irish Research Council’s (IRC) New Laureate Awards, Professor Orla Feely, University College Dublin (UCD) Vice-President for Research, Innovation and Impact said, “I warmly welcome today’s announcement by Minister Bruton TD and Minister Halligan TD of a €29.6 million investment by the Irish Research Council in frontier research projects, including a €12 million investment for a series of Advanced Laureate Grants.”

She added, “I am especially delighted to see that 10 of the 36 Starting and Consolidator Awards announced today have been made to UCD researchers, from the full breadth of the University, reflecting the strength and diversity of the frontier research environment at this University. I congratulate each of them on their success.”
She concluded, “As a former Chair of the Irish Research Council, I know that this programme is long awaited and much needed. The support of excellent frontier research across all disciplines is an essential feature of a strong research system. I look forward to seeing the IRC Laureate Awards Scheme grow and flourish over the years ahead, supporting Ireland to address the challenges of today and tomorrow.”
