Dublin ranked by Fortune Magazine as one of 7 best new global cities for start-ups

An article today by Omar Akhtar in Fortune Magazine has ranked Dublin as 1 of six global cities and one city-state that are actually enabling start-ups and smart ideas.

According to the article executives, entrepreneurs and investors are on the hunt for hotbeds of original thinking and new-business creation, in search of people and start-ups that might give their own companies and portfolios a competitive edge and are asking themselves Where's the next Silicon Valley?

In ranking Dublin the article outlined that Dublin is cheaper than London, boasts low corporate tax rates, and everybody speaks English. Its "Silicon Docks" neighbourhood houses tech giants Google, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Zynga. Last year Twitter announced that it was opening its third international office (after London and Tokyo) in Dublin, making the city its European headquarters. The annual Dublin Web Summit is one of the fastest-growing tech conferences in Europe.

It concludes that Dublin is good for education, hardware and business-friendly policies.

The other cities included in the article are Zurich, Stockholm, Singapore, Copenhagen, Oulu and Eindhoven.
