Serial tech entrepreneur, investor and co-founder of Amadeus Capital Partners to deliver innovation seminar at University College Dublin

Dr Hermann Hauser, a serial tech entrepreneur, investor and a co-founder of Amadeus Capital Partners, a pan-European venture capital company with over £470m under management, will deliver an innovation seminar next week at University College Dublin.

The title of the interactive seminar is Innovation, the Only Game in the West.

Organised by UCD Innovation the seminar is being delivered as part of the Brown Bag Lunch @ NovaUCD series of monthly talks chaired by Gavin Bourke, Nebula Ventures.

Originally from Austria, Hermann Hauser, who is based in Cambridge, UK, has enjoyed a long and successful career both as an entrepreneur, in a wide range of technology sectors, and as a venture capitalist.

He is probably best well-known for his part in setting-up Acorn Computers with Chris Curry in 1978 which was subsequently acquired by Olivetti in 1985. He has also been involved in the spin-out of what is now ARM Holdings from Acorn Computers, following the development of the forerunner of the ARM processor, which is today found in over 90% of mobile phones.

Other companies he has founded or co-founded include Active Book Company, Virata, Net Products, NetChannel, and Cambridge Network Limited and he was a founder director of IQ (Bio), IXI Limited, Vocalis, SynGenix, Advanced Displays Limited, Electronic Share Information Limited and E*Trade UK.

In 1997 he co-founded Amadeus Capital Partners which has active investments in over 40 companies across Europe at any one time. Amadeus Capital Partners invested in Dublin-based Intune Networks in 2008 and earlier this year Hermann joined the board as an non-executive director.

Hermann Hauser holds an MA in Physics from Vienna University and a PhD in Physics from the Cavendish Laboratory at King's College, Cambridge. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and of the Royal Academy of Engineering and an Honorary Fellow of King's College, Cambridge. He is a member of the Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology and was commissioned by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to write a report on technology and innovation in the UK, which contributed to the government's fund for Technology and Innovation Centres.

The Brown Bag Lunch @ NovaUCD series of monthly talks is chaired by Gavin Bourke, Nebula Ventures for NovaUCD client companies. Gavin has been working within the Irish venture arena for over 13 years and has worked with a variety of companies, including Decawave, MTT, APT, The TAS Group, Havok, Norkom, ChangingWorlds and Mapflow. Topics discussed range from accessing venture capital, preparing for investment, leadership driving performance. Occasionally a Brown Bag Lunch @NovaUCD session is held off-site and opened to the wider business community.
