Erasmus Grants

Students going on an Erasmus exchange are generally entitled to receive a grant from the European Commission.

The Erasmus grant will be paid on foot of the online applications, so there is not a separate application procedure.  The grant amount varies from year to year, and depends on destination and length of exchange.  Please see Erasmus study grants 2011/12 to see the amounts for 2011/12.

In order to release the grant, students must return two forms to the International Office:

  1. Study Abroad Declaration 2012/13 , a UCD requirement.  Please read the Declaration carefully and sign it.
  2. Erasmus Financial Agreement 2012/13 , a requirement of the HEA, which administers the Erasmus programme in Ireland.

If you do not return the Study Abroad Declaration and the Student Mobility Grant Contract, your grant will not be paid.

Since we must have a signature on both forms, we cannot accept electronic copies, but they may be sent by fax or scanned and emailed.  The grant will be paid by electronic transfer in the autumn for full year or semester one students and in January for students going in semester two.

Please note that students travelling to Germany on a DAAD or Erlangen scholarship are not eligible for an Erasmus grant.  Students may receive only one Erasmus grant for a study exchange, so those who received a grant as undergraduates are not eligible for another grant as a postgraduate student.

If you have any queries about your eligibility for the Erasmus grant, please erasmus@ucd.ie

Students with a disability

There may be additional funding available from the HEA for students with a disability.  Please contact the International Office for more information at erasmus@ucd.ie or by phone at 01 716 8491/8542.

New ERA students

The International Office may provide additional funding for students registered with the New ERA programme.  Please contact the International Office for more information at erasmus@ucd.ie or by phone at 01 716 8491/8542.

UCD Registration Fees

Students on exchange must be fully registered in UCD while abroad.  All required registration fees should be paid by the deadline, as otherwise student accounts will be de-activated.  A fine is imposed to re-activate the account.

Please see http://www.ucd.ie/students/registration.html  for updates on the registration process for the current academic year.

Local Authority Grant

Students in receipt of a Local Authority Higher Education Grant should contact their local authority in relation to continuing their funding while on exchange.
