    Erasmus Mundus Programmes at UCD
     

    UCD are currently participating in a number of programmes within Erasmus Mundus falling under two different types of programmes.

    Erasmus Mundus Action 1 (Joint Graduate Degrees)

    Action 1 provides support for high-quality joint masters courses (Action 1 A) and doctoral programmes (Action 1 B) offered by a consortium of European, and possibly Third Country, higher education institutions with

    • scholarships/fellowships for Third Country* and European students/doctoral candidates to follow these Erasmus Mundus joint masters' courses and doctoral programmes
    • short-term scholarships for Third Country* and European academics to carry out research or teaching assignments as part of the joint masters programmes

    *(Third-Country - a country which is not a Member State of the European Union and which does not participate in the programme according to Article 9 of the Programme Decision)

    UCD are participating in the following Erasmus Mundus Programmes under Action 1 of Erasmus Mundus:

    • NOHA Mundus Joint Master's Degree Program in International Humanitarian Action. Please see the NOHA website for further information.

    • MISOCO Joint European Master in International Migration and Social Cohesion. Please see the MISOCO website for further information.

    EXTATIC - Extreme-ultraviolet and X-ray Training in Advanced Technologies for Interdisciplinary Cooperation (Joint PhD programme). Please see the EXTATIC website for further information.

     

    Erasmus Mundus Action 2 (former External Cooperation Window)

    The Erasmus Mundus Action 2 is a scholarship and mobility programme. These programmes facilitate students and academic staff from participant countries to receive scholarships for study at UCD and for UCD students and academic staff to travel to and study in specified countries.

    Scholarships are for students (undergraduate, master, doctorate, post-doc) and academic staff from specific countries for studies at universities that are involved in the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 programme. The funding gives you money for: travel costs; a monthly allowance; tuition fees; and insurance costs.

    UCD participates in the following programmes:

    Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 2 Lot 5: Gulf Countries

    Application window: 28th September 2012 to 26th November 2012  

    Consortium composition:

    The Erasmus Mundus Gulf Countries programme is coordinated by University of Deusto (Spain). The partnership consists of the following partner universities:

    Gulf Countries Universities:

    The purpose of this collaboration between Gulf Countries partners and EU partners is to:

    • Support cooperation between HEIs with a view to promoting study programmes and mobility
    • Foster the mobility of master students, doctor and post-doctoral candidates between the EU and GGC by promoting transparency, mutual recognition of qualifications and periods of study, research and training, and, where appropriate, portability of credits
    • Support the mobility of academic and administrative staff with a view to improving mutual understanding and expertise, of issues relevant to relations between the EU and the partner countries

     Grants to all selected students and staff which include the following:

    • Monthly allowance (according to the type of mobility awarded – as above)
    • Tuition fees covered by the Programme at Host university
    • Travel, Accident and Health insurance
    • Travel costs to and from country of origin to Host university

    Erasmus Mundus Action 2 Strand 1 Lot 11: Europe Asia

    Application window: 15th October 2012 to 1st December 2012

     

    Consortium composition:

    The Erasmus Mundus Europe Asia programme is coordinated by Lund University (Sweden). The partnership Erasmus Mundus Europe Asia (EMEA) consists of the following partner universities:

    About the EMEA programme:

     

    EMEA is a scholarship programme for students on undergraduate, master, doctoral and post-doctoral level as well as for university staff in academic or administrative positions.

     

    The EMEA Scholarship Programme is open to nationals in Bangladesh, China, India, Nepal and Pakistan who want to study or work at one of the European partner universities.

    The objective is to achieve better understanding and mutual enrichment between the European Union and Asia in the field of higher education by promoting the exchange of people, knowledge and skills at a higher education level. We aim to create a partnership in research and education that will strengthen the ties between Europe and Asia.

    Duration of Mobility & Grant Available for Asian applicants coming to Europe institutions:

    The EMEA scholarship covers:

     

    1. Round trip flight ticket
    2. A monthly subsistence allowance (rates below)
    3. Full insurance coverage - health, travel, accident.
    4. Tuition fees, if applied at the host university

     

    The minimum and maximum number of months covered by the scholarship, and the rates for monthly subsistence allowances are listed below. Note that the mobility period may vary between different target groups (see Target Groups for more detailed information).

     

    Duration

    Undergraduate:
    1-2 academic semesters (maximum 9 months)
    Master: 1-4 academic semesters (maximum 22 months)
    PhD: 1-6 academic semesters (maximum 34 months)
    Post-doc: 1-2 academic semesters (maximum 9 months)
    Staff: 1 month

    Monthly rate

     

    Undergraduate: € 1 000/month
    Master: € 1 000/month
    PhD: € 1 500/month
    Post-doc: € 1 800/month
    Staff: € 2 500/month

     

    Fields of Study:

    Most of the EMEA partner universities are comprehensive universities or specialized technical institutions. All universities are strong research universities and the partnership aims to cover all thematic fields. See Academic Fields for further information.
