Holders of Bachelors and Masters Degrees with good grades from competitive and well ranked universities and colleges in Vietnam can be considered for entry to graduate degrees at UCD.
Taught Masters and Research Masters
The normal requirement for entry to a taught or research Master’s Degree programme is a second class honours degree in a relevant subject.
You should check the specific entry requirements for your program of study - you can find your program on our course finder - as some programs may have higher or additional requirements.
For applicants who do not have the required minimal entry standard, additional courses may be available. You can find more information is available by exploring each school's page. If you are unsure if you meet the entry requirements you can email us at southeastasia@ucd.ie.
PhD Programmes
To be eligible to enter one of UCD’s PhD programmes, a candidate must have reached a high honours standard at the examination for the primary degree. In some cases, a Master’s degree may also be required. In certain cases, a candidate may be able to provide other evidence to the School in order to satisfy the entry requirements of the programme.
It is recommended that applicants interested in research at Masters and PhD level should, in the first place, read the information available on the UCD research website.
Secondly, applicants should review the website of the relevant School and College to ensure they are fully informed about the research objectives of the academic course concerned. Prior to submitting an application it is essential that candidates make contact with potential supervisors.
English Language Requirements
Teaching in Irish Universities is normally through the medium of English, therefore all applicants are required to demonstrate a high level of competence in English language. Applicants must provide evidence of equivalent competence in English language through a recognised English language test. How to Apply
Apply Direct
You can apply direct to the university at www.ucd.ie/apply. You will be required to pay an application fee of €50 and asked to fill out an online form and upload your documents.
Apply with an approved Agent
You can apply for UCD through one of our approved agents. Please see the list of approved agents below, under Agents in Your Country. There is no application fee if you apply through an approved agent, and they can assist you with your application, scholarship, paying your fees, your visa and making your arrangements to come to UCD.
Documents for your application
Typically applications will require:
- A copy of your bachelor degree certificate (original and translated if necessary)
- A copy of your degree transcripts (original and translated if necessary)
- Your English language certificate
Some programs will require additional documents to be uploaded. Once you start your online application you will be told which documents to upload.
Note: You can submit your application prior to obtaining your English language certificate or prior to completion of your degree. Please provide information of when the final results can be expected on your application form.

Visa Information
Do I need a Visa?
Yes – students travelling from Vietnam will require a visa to study in Ireland. Please apply early as visa processing times can be lengthy. Information on the online visa application service and on general visa procedures and requirements is available on our Visa and Immigration Page, and on the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service website.

UCD Global Excellence Graduate Scholarship
Open to: All successful applicants to eligible full time, one-year taught Masters programmes who are citizens of and resident in Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam or Singapore.

Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme Scholarship | Each year, the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme brings suitably qualified candidates from developing countries to undertake graduate studies at colleges and universities in Ireland. VIED PhD Scholarship Scheme (Vietnam)
The Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam (MOET) through its Vietnam International Education Development (VIED) office and University College Dublin (UCD), are jointly offering PhD scholarships to students from Vietnam who intend to undertake a PhD at University College Dublin.
The scholarship is intended for a 4 year full-time PhD. This scheme is an exciting opportunity for students to benefit from studying in one of Europe’s leading research-driven universities.
