The Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Study Abroad Programme at UCD offers you exciting opportunities to advance your knowledge in the Agri-Food and the Environmental Sciences area. The diversity of our portfolio of courses is evident from the range of specialisations open to you - Food Science, Forestry, Horticulture, Human Nutrition, Agribusiness, Animal Science, Dairy Business, Engineering Technology, Environmental Science, Equine Science, Crop Science, Sportsturf Management.
The Agri-Food sector is Ireland’s most important indigenous industry and UCD is the only Irish University offering the Bachelor of Agricultural Science (BAgrSc) degree. Over 50% of our undergraduate students are from urban or non-farm backgrounds, reflecting the wide range of degree programme options available within Agri-Food, Nutrition and the Environment.
Facilities
The Agriculture and Food Science Centre provides excellent learning support facilities for our visiting students, including a purpose-built Food Science building with dedicated food laboratories and a sensory evaluation suite. Students have access to UCD’s 250 hectare research farm, Lyon’s Estate, which is located at Newcastle, Co. Dublin and to glasshouse and field research facilities on the Belfield campus.
Subject Choices
Study Abroad students may select modules from any of our eleven undergraduate BAgrSc majors subject to timetabling and availability.
Agri-Environmental Sciences, Animal & Crop Production, Animal Science-Equine, Dairy Business, Engineering Technology, Food & Agribusiness Management, Food Science, Forestry, Horticulture, Landscape & Sportsturf Management and Human Nutrition.
Module Details
Details of the modules taught under each BAgrSc major may be obtained from www.ucd.ie/students/course_search.htm
Students attending UCD for the full academic year may take up to 60 credits while students attending for one semester may take up to 30 credits.
Assessment
Formal examinations are set in December, March (for specific Semester 2 modules only) and May. International students are expected to undertake examinations in accordance with University regulations. Increasingly, project and class-based work forms a component of the assessment process.
Credit Transfer
At the end of your semester, UCD will send your official transcript to your home institution. Your home institution decides on credits to be awarded for modules pursued at UCD. We will be pleased to provide full information on our modules to enable your institutions to make decisions regarding the transfer of credits.
Eligibility
The minimum GPA requirement is 3.00. In addition to completing the UCD on-line application process, a standard form of identification i.e. copy of Passport, a transcript of academic record to date and letter of recommendation from an academic referee should be sent to Claudia Schmid at the address provided before the application deadline.
