The UCD Architecture Study Abroad Programme offers visiting students the opportunity to be part of the longest running Architecture programme in Ireland; which is also the only one accredited by the professional institutes of both Ireland and Britain (RIAI and RIBA respectively). The UCD School of Architecture's modules offer Study Abroad students excellent opportunities to enhance their knowledge in all fields of Architecture from technical (Architectural Technologies, Structures, Environmental Science) to cultural (Architectural History & Theory, Ecology, Conservation) and managerial (Professional Studies). Study Abroad students may also gain design studio experience.
Facilities
Architecture at UCD is at the forefront of the architectural and urban design debate in Ireland. The UCD School of Architecture provides a unique forum for interaction between research, teaching and the practice of Architecture. The School is located at the Richview section of the Belfield campus and boasts its own building laboratory, computer laboratories, library and café. Most of the lectures, tutorials, seminars and other module activities happen in this location.
Subject choices
Architecture Study Abroad students have the opportunity to choose from two Architecture Studio modules (15-ECTS credit Design Studio module for students from Accredited Architecture Programmes or the 10-ECTS credit Design Studio for those who are non-Accredited Architecture Majors) and from all lecture-based Architecture modules . Students may also have the opportunity to take part in Architecture field trips to European cities.
Students attending UCD for a single semester may take up to 30 ECTS which typically comprise: one Architecture Studio module and a selection of taught modules. These taught modules may be either all Architecture modules or a combination of Architecture modules with up to two modules from other subject areas offered in UCD. UCD also welcomes applications from students wishing to participate in the Architecture Study Abroad Programme on a full-year basis.
