The UCD School of Law offers visiting students the opportunity to study and immerse themselves in the largest Law School in Ireland. The School has an exceptional academic community where students enjoy direct engagement with experts in the field who are at the cutting edge of teaching and research. We specialise in a range of high quality degree programmes in law as a stand alone discipline or in combination with a number of other disciplines. Opportunities are also given for students to develop their legal skills through participation in mooting events and the UCD Law Review which is a student run legal journal.
Facilities
The UCD School of Law is located at Roebuck Castle on the Belfield campus where students receive support from the dedicated student co-ordinator. The School is home to the only Institute of Criminology in Ireland and the Commercial Law Centre. Students enjoy small tutorial sessions in the Castle whilst also being able to avail of the many social activities that take place on the large University campus. Law Subject Choices
Students are invited to take a School of Law modules as an introduction to different areas of the legal system. Modules such as;
- Constitutional Law
- Contract Law
- Criminal Law
Students are also eligible to take up to two modules from outside the School of Law for example, they make take a module from the Quinn School of Business or The College of Arts, Celtic Studies & Human Sciences. Students can take a minimum of 20 credits (ECTS) and a maximum of 30 credits each semester. The majority of classes will be taken from the Law School and students are encouraged to combine these with courses from other Schools in UCD.Assessment
Formal examinations are set at the end of each semester in December and May. Study Abroad students are expected to undertake examinations in accordance with University regulations. Increasingly, project and class-based work forms a component of the assessment process.
Credit Transfer
At the end of the semester, the UCD School of Law sends an official transcript to the home institution and a copy to the student. Your home institution decides on credits to be awarded for modules pursued at UCD. We will pleased to provide full information on our modules to enable institutions to make decisions regarding the transfer of credits.
PLEASE NOTE It is not possible to extend study in UCD beyond the year for which an application had been accepted or subsequently to register as a full-time undergraduate student in the School of Law.
Eligibility
The minimum GPA requirement is 3.00.
In addition to completing the UCD on-line application process, a standard form of identification i.e. copy of Passport, a transcript of academic record to date and letter of recommendation from an academic referee should be sent to the Law Programme Office before the application deadline.
