Programme Information

Full year:  Up to 12 modules
One semester:  Up to 6 modules
Average weekly load:  12 lecture hours with associated laboratory classes where appropriate.

Pre-Medical Study Abroad students may take up to a maximum of two non-Science/Medical modules per semester.

Subject Choices  

Science and Medical Modules

The opportunity to experience the clinical environment during your study abroad semester is encouraged.  Students will attend lectures and laboratory classes which are delivered by lecturers who are at the forefront of both teaching and research. The following are some of the suitable scientific and health based subject areas:

  • Anatomy                           
  • Biochemistry and Molecular Biology                    
  • Cell and Molecular Biology
  • Environmental Biology        
  • Genetics
  • Pathology                           
  • Physiology
  • Plant Biology
  • Radiography                       
  • Zoology

Non-Science/Non Medical Modules

Pre-Medical Study Abroad students may take up to a maximum of 2 non-science/non-medical modules per semester.  These modules may be chosen from a number of programmes across the university, for example:  

  • Arts
  • Business

Please note that while every effort will be made to facilitate student requests, module choice will be subject to space availability and timetable constraints.

The compatibility of modules relates to the current timetable and may be subject to change.  Modules with the same timetable compatibility letter may not be taken together.

The Science Programme offers a diverse range of courses across all the science disciplines, including Biological/Biomedical, Chemical, Computer Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences. Students may wish to substitute other science modules as appropriate for those listed above. Assessments

Formal examinations are set at the end of each semester in December and May. International students are expected to undertake examinations in accordance with University regulations.  Increasingly, project and class-based work form a component of the assessment process. 

Credit Transfer

The home institution decides on credits to be awarded for modules pursued at UCD.  We will be pleased to provide full information on our modules to enable institutions to make decisions regarding the transfer of credits.

Eligibility 

The minimum GPA requirement is 3.00. In addition to completing the UCD on-line application process, a standard form of identification i.e. copy of passport, a transcript of academic record to date and letter of recommendation from an academic referee should be sent to the Science Programme Office before the application deadline.

Full year or first semester (Fall):      May 1st  
Second semester (Spring):              October 15th
