From Microscopic to Cosmic, From Nature to Computers, From Chaos to Order the Science Study Abroad Programme at University College Dublin offers a diverse range of subject areas and provides exciting opportunities to advance your knowledge while studying in Ireland.  All incoming Science Study Abroad students will be linked with a peer mentor who is a second or third year student.  Where possible, we will try to assign peer mentors who have had a similar experience and will be able to understand the needs and aspirations of Science Study Abroad students.  Further information on the Science Study Abroad Programme is available here.

Facilities

UCD Science has the largest Science Programme in Ireland delivered by lecturers at the forefront of both teaching and research. Students may also enhance their experience by adding up to two non-science modules per semester.

Module Details

The Science Programme offers a diverse range of courses across all the science disciplines, including Biological/Biomedical, Chemical, Computer Sciences, Mathematical and Physical Sciences.  Module information can be found http://www.ucd.ie/students/course_search.htm  and click on the link for Science.  To help students when selecting their modules (courses) we have produced sample suits of modules from the various disciplines which are timetable compatible.  These lists are not intended to restrict student choice in any way.  Sample suites can be found at http://www.ucd.ie/science        

Please note that these lists are based on the 2010/11 timetable and my be subject to change in the next academic year.

Assessment

Formal examinations are set at the end of each semester in December and May. International students are expected to undertake examinations in accordance with University regulations. Increasingly, project and class-based work forms a component of the assessment process.

Peer Mentors

All incoming Science Study Abroad students will be linked with a peer mentor who is a second or third year UCD student.  Where possible, we try to assign peer mentors who have had a similar experience and have spent some time studying in the US and will be able to understand the needs and aspirations of Science Study Abroad students.

Credit Transfer

The home institution decides on credits to be awarded for modules pursued at UCD. We will be pleased to provide full information on our modules to enable institutions to make decisions regarding the transfer of credits.

Eligibility

The minimum GPA requirement is 3.00.  In addition to completing the UCD on-line application process, a standard form of identification i.e. copy of passport, a transcript of academic record to date and letter of recommendation from an academic referee should be sent to the Science Programme Office before the application deadline.
