In December 2007 the Southside Travellers Action Group (STAG) were invited to visit the National Folklore Collection at UCD. As a consequence of their visit, the New Era office at UCD facilitated a project which was co-ordinated by Rónán Galvin, a tutor and postgraduate student in Irish Folklore, and Diana Caramaschi, an artist working with the group at the STAG centre in Sandyford. Over the folowing six months the Group set about plotting their traditions and life experiences on a colourful six-foot high map of Ireland.
Many of the members were interviewed about aspects of their traditions including folk medicine, genealogy and their life experiences in the Travelling community. The narratives were accompanied by paintings representing their vibrant material culture. The exhibition was launched on 22nd May 2009 at the NFC, where a May bush decorated by the ladies stands proudly as a colourful celebration of their traditions.
