Official data from the Central Statistics Office

Household Budget Survey (HBS)

The HBS is a survey of a representative random sample of all private households in the State. Surveys have been carried out periodically in Ireland since 1951.  ISSDA holds data for the 1987, 1994, 1999/2000 and 2004/05 HBS surveys.  HBS data is available only for use in bona fide research projects.  Those seeking data for consultancy and/or commercial uses should contact the Central Statistics Office directly.

The main purpose of the HBS is to determine in detail the current pattern of household expenditure in order to update the weighting basis of the Consumer Price Index. Detailed information is also collected on all sources of household income and on a range of household facilities.
