How to install the ‘Novell’ client

Last Updated: 25/08/11

To use Novell storage on UCD's computer network you must install the Novell client on your computer. This program is called the ‘Novell Client’. The Novell Client allows us to manage the access to and the security of the computer network.

Step 1

Make sure you have registered your computer. Find out how to register your computer.

Step 2

Start your computer. Make sure you log in to your computer as an Administrator.

If you do not log in as an Administrator, you will not be able to complete this process.

If you don’t know what an Administrator is, please call the IT Helpdesk for further assistance.

Step 3

Logon to UCD Connect and Click on Software Download from the Software Applications channel

Click Download in the Novell Client section

Click Save in the box that appears. Select a location for download.

The download will take about 1 minute.

Step 4

When the download is complete, doubleclick the saved file.

Click unzip in the box that appears.

Step 5

Doubleclick the icon My Computer on your desktop.

Enter the following address: C:\NovellClient\temp

Step 6

Doubleclick the file called Install.bat

This will cause a preconfigured Novell client to be installed

Step 7

Restart your computer (if it does not automatically restart).

Step 8

When your computer restarts you will see the Novell Client login screen.

Click on the Advanced button.

Select UCD-TREE from the drop-down menu for the Tree field.

Step 9

You can now login by entering your username and password. Find out how to get a UCD username and password (staff & postgraduates only).
