Eduroam Usage Policy
The use of the eduroam service is governed by UCD’s acceptable usage policy and by the eduroam policy itself. The most notable part of the eduroam policy is Section 6
1. A user's role is in principle always a visitor who wants Internet access at a Server Provider (SP). The user MUST abide by their IdP's (Identity Provider) AUP or equivalent and respect the visitedorganisation's AUP or equivalent. Where regulations differ the more restrictive applies. Users MUST as a minimum abide by relevant law of the country where(s)he is physically situated while using the service, home or abroad.
2. The user is responsible for taking reasonable steps to ensure that (s)he is connected to a genuine eduroam service (as directed by their home organisation)prior to entering their login credentials. The primary means to achieve this is to validate the server certificate that is presented to the user upon login.
3. The user is responsible for their credentials and the use of any service they might provide.
4. If credentials are thought to have been compromised, the user MUST immediately report back to their IdP.
5. The user is obliged to inform the SP (where possible) and IdP of any faults with theeduroam service.
6. If a user is in breach of these acceptable usage policies, the following actions will be taken:
- The user will be notified of the breach and if it occurs again will be suspended from the service for one week. An example of a breach of the AUP is the use of P2P (peer to peer services) as the WiFi service is a shared medium and heavy traffic adversely affects the quality of service.
- If the same user is in breach again they will be removed from the service for two weeks.
- If the same user is in breach for a fourth time they will be removed from the service indefinitely and the Head of School/Unit will be notified. A communication will be required from the Head of School/Unit before the user can access the service again.
- If there is a consistent breach of the service in a particular location, then the service maybe removed from that location and the relevant Head of School/Unit will be notified. A meeting with the Head of School/Unit will be required and agreement on the acceptable use of the service in that location will need to be agreed before the service will be made live again.
