How to set-up your UCD email in Outlook Express (Staff)

Follow these steps to set-up your UCD e-mail in Outlook Express.
Start Outlook Express.
Click Tools at the top of the screen.
Click Accounts.
On the top-right corner of this window, choose the Add button then select Mail.
This will start the Internet Connection Wizard.
For Display Name enter the name that will appear on messages that you send, e.g. John Smith.
Enter your name.
Click Next.
Enter your e-mail address in the format firstname.lastname@ucd.ie
Click Next.
The next screen will ask for the Email Server names.
For the option "My incoming mail server is a..", you will need to select IMAP from the pull-down menu provided.
Staff
- Address of the Incoming Mail server: imap.ucd.ie
- Address for the Outgoing mail server: smtp.ucd.ie
Click Next.
On the Internet Mail Logon screen, the account name and password are your UCD Connect username and password.
Choose Next and then click Finish.
You should now be presented with the "Internet Accounts" window.
On the Mail tab you should see listed the account we just created - this may be listed as "imap.ucd.ie"
Select this acount and choose the Properties button on the right.
On the Account Properties window, select the Advanced tab.
On this tab, under the "Server Port Numbers" heading, you will see "Incoming mail(IMAP)".
Directly below this is a checkbox labelled "This server requires a secure connection(SSL)". Select this option.
You may notice that the port number above changes from 143 to 993.
The Outgoing mail (SMTP) should be specified as 587
Choose the OK button at the bottom to saves these settings changes and then choose Close on the Internet Accounts window.
You will be asked "Would you like to download folders from the mail server you added?". Choose Yes.
This will download a list of folders from your IMAP account. Choose OK and begin viewing your mail from the list of mailboxes on the left.
Your email is now set-up.
