How to change passwords on a computer using Linux

To change a password in Linux follow the steps below.


Step 1

In the terminal/console execute the command "passwd".

Step 2

The following message will appear.

Changing password for "your_username".

Step 3

A current password will be requested.

(current) Unix Password

Step 4

Type in New Password

Enter new Unix Password

Step 5

Confirmation of the Password will be requested.

Retype New Unix Password

Warning: DO NOT delete accounts, especially if you do not recognise them.
