How to configure Blackberry security directly from your computer

Last Updated: 28/11/08

Note: These instructions are here for convenience only. For additional support in configuring your Blackberry, please contact telephone.services@ucd.ie.

Tip: Before making any changes, take note of your current settings.

To configure blackberry security settings direct from a Mac or PC follow the steps below.

Step 1

Go to this website and log in.

You will be presented with a pop-up window asking for your Vodafone username and password. (You may need to enable popups for the Vodafone.ie  site)

Step 2

On your Blackberry web client home page click on 'Email Accounts' in the item 'Services'

Step 3

On the next page, click the Add Account button.

On the next page, enter your UCD email address, your UCD username and a fake password (anything will do) in the appropriate boxes, and click the Submit button.

Step 4

The BlackBerry web client will attempt to automatically determine your email account settings, and fail.

It will then present you with a series of advanced configurationscreens.

Step 5

On the first screen, select "I use an email client such as Outlook" and press Submit.

On the second screen, enter Server: imap.ucd.ie, the port number 993, your UCD email address, username and your correct email password.

Make sure you check both the following checkboxes:

  • Leave messages on mail server
  • Utilise SSL

Then click Submit.

Step 6

You should receive a confirmation screen indicating that your email account has been successfully integrated with your BlackBerry hand-held.
