Last Updated: 01/12/08

WinZip is a program that can compress and reduce the size of a file.

Because it has encryption built in, it can also be used to secure sensitive material sent by email.

Find out how to download WinZip.

To use WinZip follow the steps below.

Step 1
To Zip files, Click on the New icon or from file menu, select new archive.
Step 2
Specify desired location and name of zip file. The add dialog box will appear.
Step 3
Select files for addition (tick the encrypt files box if the zip file is to be sent over email).
Step 4
If using encryption, the following dialog will appear. Enter a strong password twice and select the AES encryption. Note that where a file is to be emailed, contact the recipient separately to agree a password.

Step 5
To Unzip files, Click on open from the menu.
Step 6
Select files to be unzipped. Once these files are in the tray, highlight the file and then click on Extract

Step 7
Then select desired location for file.
Step 8
*To use Quick Zip, Right click over the file and choose location for file.
Step 9
