Install and Use Anti-Virus (PC)

Unprotected computers are vulnerable to viruses ranging from annoyances to damaging trojans. In UCD, Sophos is the standard Antivirus Package for installation on all computers.
How to Install and Use Sophos Anti-virus, using the follow the steps below.
(1) Installing Sophos
To download Sophos Anti-Virus login to UCD Connect and Click on the "software download" icon. |

Find Sophos in the list of applications and click on "Download" opposite this. |

When prompted select Save and Desktop. |

When the download is complete select Run. |
| Internet Explorer will ask you to confirm your actions by displaying a security warning. Select Run to begin installation. | |

The Sophos software will automatically extract and install on your computer. |
| When completed a blue shield will appear in the taskbar beside your clock. |

Right click the Sophos Shield and select Update now. |
Sophos will download and install the most recent virus reference files automatically.
From this point Sophos is pre-configured to download and install available updates once every 60 minutes and to perform a full system scan every tuesday at 6pm.
(2) Using Sophos:
“On-access scanning”
Sophos Anti-Virus 7 downloaded from UCD Connect contains a preconfigured scan which is scheduled to occur at 6pm each Tuesday.

Right-click scanning
To do this simply right-click on the file or folder that you wish to scan and click on Scan with Sophos Anti-Virus
“On-demand scanning”
On-demand scanning is a scan off all or parts of a computer that you can run immediately or set to run at a time of your choosing. By default an On-demand scan is set to run on all local drives at 18:00 every Tuesday.
