How to change a UCD computer’s settings so you can use it

If you are new to UCD, you may have been given a computer that was previously used by someone else. If so, please follow the instructions below to change the computer’s settings so that it can now be used by you.


Step 1

Make sure you have a UCD network account.

Without this account you cannot access your UCD email or any other networked services.

Step 1

Before you use the UCD network, you must read and accept the conditions of our Acceptable Use Policy.

Step 3

Login to the network. Find out how to login.

Step 5

Change the ‘administrator’ password for the computer to one of your selection.

The ‘administrator’ password is a password that gives full access to the settings of the computer.

Note: There may already be an administrator password on the computer from its previous user.

You may not be able to set a new password, without the old password.

Call the IT Services Helpdesk for help changing or setting an administrator password.
