How to buy a new printer

Last Updated: 18/08/11

Information on purchasing a new printer for use on the UCD network.

Step 1:

UCD IT Services recommends any of the Hewlett Packard range of LaserJet printers. However, some of the lower specification models are unsuitable for use on the University’s network, for example:

  • HP LaserJet 1300
  • HP LaserJet 1022
  • HP Colour LaserJet 2600n
  • OKi c8600
  • HP Officejet Pro K5400n
Step 2:

Make sure the printer you choose is compatible with your computer’s operating system.

To do so, check your computer’s operating system and then ask the printer vendor.

If wish to connect the printer to the UCD network, make sure it has an internal or external Jetdirect card (network card).

Step 3:

Find out how to set up the printer on the network.
