Mounting your Connect Files storage on your Mac Desktop

1. Login to UCD Connect and click on the Connect Files icon in the menu bar. Take note of the filestore that your username is associated with. It will be listed near the top left of your Connect Files screen, as illustrated by the screen shot below.

Mac Step 1

2. Now you will need to connect to the server from your mac by going to the Finder and choosing the Go -> Connect to Server menu option or by pressing ⌘-K.

Mac Step 2

3. You will then be presented with a dialog box asking for you to enter a server address. In the Server Address field you will enter the following, changing YOUR_FILE_STORE with the filestore you recorded in Step 1 and replacing YOUR_USER_NAME with your real username:

https://connectfiles.ucd.ie/YOUR_FILE_STORE/YOUR_USERNAME

Mac Step 3

Clicking the “+” icon next to the address will bookmark this link for the future. Once you have entered the address and saved the bookmark then click the Connect button.

4. You will now be presented with a dialog asking for your username and password. You should enter the same username and password you would use for UCD Connect. Check the “Remember this password” if you don’t want to have to re-renter it every time you re-connect. Then click OK.

Mac Step 4

5. Now you are connected to the server. In order for you to see the icon on your Desktop you need to go to the Finder and choose Finder->Preferences, and then check the box next to where it says “Connected Servers”. Below is an example:

Mac Step 5

Now you are all configured. One thing to note however, is that the icon will not remain on your desktop if you logout and log back into your mac. In order to re-connect you will follow Step2 and choose the bookmark you created for the server and the icon will re-appear on your desktop. Alternatively, to automatically re-connect on startup: Open your System Preferences -> Accounts control panel. Click on your account in the list on the left. Then choose the “Login Items” tab in the top right portion of the box. Drag the folder from your desktop into the list of items that will automatically be opened when you login
