Recommendations for accessing the web using the UCD wireless network

Last Updated: 04/12/08

Follow the steps below to access the web using the UCD wireless network

Step 1

Make sure your laptop has a wireless network card installed.

Most laptops now come with a wireless card by default. If you are unsure, find out how to check if your laptop has a wireless card.

Step 2

Make sure the mechanical wireless switch on your laptop is in the ‘On’ position.

Many laptops have a mechanical switch that must be in the ‘On’ position before wireless will work. This switch is probably located on the side or back of the laptop – or next to the keyboard.

Step 3

Make sure the wireless software switch on your laptop is in the ‘On’ position.

Many laptops have a wireless software switch that must be turned ‘On’ before wireless will work. This switch is probably turned ‘On’ by default. If you suspect it is not turned on, find out how to check your wireless software switch for Apple MAC and Microsoft Windows PC.
