Copyright Clearance Policy
Media Services is obliged to comply with the Copyright and Related Rights Act 2004. This Act provides that copyright consists of 'the exclusive right to undertake or authorise others to undertake all or any of the following acts, namely:
- To copy the work
- To make available to the public the work
- To make an adaptation of the work...'
Also, as and from January 2003 the Irish Copyright Licensing Agency is promoting a statutory scheme of collective licensing in relation to photocopying in Educational Establishments.
Therefore, Media Services must have sight of the relevant copyright clearance in order to copy or digitise work which is copyright protected.
Further details or points of clarification can be addressed to the: Corporate and Legal Affairs Secretary's Office, Michael Tierney Building, UCD, Belfield, Dublin 4.
Extensive information on copyright and 'fair use' can be found at this Stanford University page.
