Google Search Comes to UCD
UCD IT Services has introduced the Google Search Appliance (GSA) to provide more accurate and effective searching of UCD web content. The GSA is the enterprise version of Google's powerful search engine and is hosted here at UCD. The new search engine will dramatically improve the quality of search results and will ensure that "search" becomes a direct, user-friendly and immediate means to retrieving relevant content. The first phase of this project provides searching of all Web content in addition to searching of sites in our new intranet environment.
The GSA takes Google's core search technology and optimises it for enterprise use. This technology will over time be used to search across a broad range of enterprise content including file shares, databases, applications, hosted services and content management systems. The Google Search Appliance indexes all of the enterprise information and makes it accessible through a single easy-to-use search box.
The GSA will be fully integrated with our new Content Management System, Sitemanager and all CMS sites will automatically have a Google search of their local content. Please visit http://www.ucd.ie/sbbs to view this type of implementation.
