Module Innovation Support Grant awarded to develop eLearning materials
Media Services of IT Services and Dr Allys Guerandel, UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science (SVUH Psychiatry) have been awarded a Module Innovation Support Grant of €3,500. The grant will help fund the further development of blended learning for undergraduate psychiatry teaching. It will focus on final year medicine. This was of one of 11 grants awarded out of a total of 33 submissions. Further information on the award process is available at http://www.ucd.ie/tl/moduleinnovationsupportgrants/.

Media Services and SVUH Psychiatry have produced several video case studies and developed an online tutorial on Taking Case Histories in Psychiatry. The online tutorial makes extensive use of illustrations and video clips which demonstrate how best to manage a patient interview, which questions to ask and how to ask them. Students can check their own knowledge as they progress through the material by answering questions and receiving feedback on their responses. An online notebook is integrated into the tutorial allowing students to record their observations and reflections.
A short report on the implementation and evaluation of the elearning materials will be provided to the adjudication panel by the end of the academic year 2009/10.
