Ricoh shortlisted for award for UCD's green print policy

UCD is the first Irish university to adopt a green printing policy with the help of digital office equipment provider Ricoh. UCD IT Services recently adopted a duplex printing policy as standard, meaning both sides of a page are now automatically used for printing purposes. This simple change is expected to reduce UCD's carbon footprint by several million pages per year.

Ricoh has supplied UCD with in the region of 60 printers across campus to accomodate the large student population, along with two full-time onsite technicians to help with printer-related queries.

This move aims to free up the university’s IT support desk by reducing printer support calls by 4,500 on the previous year.

A new smart card system for students will combine a 'follow-me' printing feature that allows students the flexibility to print documents from any Ricoh printer on the campus network, using their student cards.

Many of our students have already expressed increased satisfaction with Ricoh's flexible and lower cost service.”

As a result of this project, Ricoh are shortlisted for the ICT Excellence Awards 2009 for Public Sector IT project of the year. The awards will be held Thursday 21st May 2009. See http://www.ictexcellenceawards.ie/
