Open Access Lab Space and Technology Review
PCs are replaced each year as part of the annual PC replacement lifecycle programme carried out by IT Services, and since 2009 IT Services have been conducting an Open Access Labs and Technology Review. The purpose of this project is to understand how facilities are being used and best channel resources to meet changing demands.
As a result:
- 150 PCs in the computer laboratories are being upgraded between now and mid June
- 25 SUAS PCs will be upgraded in the Science block, Student Centre and Daedalus building
- PCs in each facility will be cleaned during the months of July and August in preparation for Start of Term 2010
Also, due to the underutilisation of certain labs as well as the urgent requirement for teaching space, seven computer labs will be decommissioned beginning next week. for details. Resources and support for these labs will be refocused on the enhancement of heavily used open access services such as wireless, SUAS and enhanced student learning spaces as well as the development of services for mobile devices.
