Connecting to the Wireless and Wired Networks

At busy times such as exam time, wireless connectivity in popular areas such as the main Libraries can sometimes be impacted due to high volumes of simultaneous users congregating in areas where power outlets are in supply.

We recommend that you power up in advance or go to a less busy location as each wireless base station can only accommodate so many simultaneous users. Wireless access is available in all main campus areas (see list of hotspots here) or why not connect to the wired network?

Follow these steps to register your laptop on the UCD wired network:

Step 1:

Using a network cable, connect your laptop to a network point in the laptop areas around campus.

Step 2:

Turn on your laptop and launch the web browser. You will be automatically presented with a registration screen.  Follow the steps to submit your registration application and it will be completed within 24 hours.

Step 3:

Once registration is complete you will be able to access the wired network.
If you have any problems, please contact the IT Support Helpdesk at ext: 2700 or call to your nearest IT Centre.
