IT Services provide emergency continuity centre for HR Staff

Wed, 14 October 15

Following a recent power outage in the Roebuck Castle building where UCD’s Human Resources staff are based, IT Services were called upon to setup an alternative location for staff so that essential work could continue.  The immediate response was to set up a computer room in the Daedalus building equipped to run the essential Business Systems. This contingency plan allowed critical HR work to continue uninterrupted while the power was being restored in Roebuck Castle.

Michael McGinley, Director of HR Services commented that the power outage had an immediate impact on HR’s ability to support staff throughout the university, particularly with deadlines in recruitment and compensation and benefits. He was extremely impressed with the rapid response by IT Services in establishing an alternative location within a few hours that enabled HR staff to continue their work.

The room used, which is located in the Daedalus Building is connected to the building’s main backup generator making it an ideal location in such a situation.
