Introduction

UCD IT Services now offers a Personal Lecture Capture service (PCap). This allows the lecturer to easily capture different aspects of their lecture and to make it available to their students via their Blackboard module or otherwise. This Personal Capture, a laptop or desktop solution, can be used to capture audio, screen output and limited video.


You will need to have a camera and microphone installed on your laptop/desktop machine.
To use the service please log a call with us by emailing ITHELPDESK@UCD.IE.


We will then provide you with the software (Windows or Mac), an account to store the recordings and a face to face session on how to use the software.

To set up the laptop/desktop for lecture capture, simply connect the microphone and camera  to the USB port on the desktop (or laptop if needed or if you have upgraded to a HD camera).

 

Then simply boot up the laptop as normal.

 

Next, open up any material to be used in the course of the lecture (Powerpoint presentation, documents, Blackboard material etc.). It is important to have any subject material open before commencing the capture.

To initiate a capture, double-click on the “Echo 360 Personal Capture” icon on the desktop.

 

Select the “Start Recording” option. Adjust the picture controls as required.

While the capture is running, the lecture capture application will not be visible.

 

To access the application again, right-click on the icon on the taskbar and click “Restore Window”.

 

press “stop recording” to stop the capture.

At this stage, you can review your capture and basic editing features are available if required.


Access to the Echo 360 server is required to publish your capture, login to the server using the username and password provided. Go to the Publish area and Share and click on Create a Public Link. This link can be embedded in your Blackboard module or emailed to colleagues/students to view.
