Buying a new Windows desktop PC & laptops from Dell

HEAnet ran a tender on behalf all Higher Education Institutions and have entered into a framework agreement with Dell until the 28th June 2018.

HEAnet, in consultation with IT Services, have selected a PC desktop from Dell which is suitable for use by UCD staff for administrative, academic and research purposes.  3 laptops have been also been selected.

Important note: The framework agreement with Dell covers the Optiplex 5050 desktop range and laptops Latitude 5480Latitude 5580Latitude 7280.  It doesn't cover any other Dell products. 

 

When purchasing your desktop or laptop, remember:

These computers can be upgraded using the Dell UCD Premier Pages with additional RAM etc.  Included is a 5 year warranty along with hardware Pro support arrangements which ensure next business day Engineer Support onsite if a repair is necessary.

The PC and laptops are supplied with an image provided by UCD IT Services.  All new PCs are licenced for Windows 10 Pro and come with the installation disks.  Sophos Anti Virus and the Novell Client installer can be installed from Software Download when the PC is registered on the network. 

Installation and removal of packaging are not included in this cost.  IT Services can help you set up the PC, once it is unpackaged.

Please bear in mind, when you order a PC from Dell, they are building it for you.  If you change your mind about the PC when you receive it, they will charge a re-stocking fee to take the PC back.

 

How to buy desktop or laptop through Dell

Full details of the models are available on the Dell Premier page. To access the Dell Premier page you will need to email our Dell account manager; Sarah Hayes s.hayes@dell.com to get set up. You will be prompted to login to the Intranet to access the page, using your Connect username and password. 

We strongly advise that you check your quotation to make sure that you understand the specification of what PC or laptop you want to buy.   If you would like advice on any of these products before you purchase, please contact IT Services through our IT Helpdesk or by dropping into our IT Centres.  

To get your official quote from Dell, you can either print off your chosen specification from the Premier page or you can save it in the basket and email our Dell account manager Sarah Hayes s.hayes@dell.com with the basket or e-quote number. Your order will then be processed.

You can also buy keyboards, mice, RAM, software, printer parts or other consumables through the Dell Premier page at a discounted rate.

If, for valid reasons, customers are required to purchase non-standard models of PCs or laptops, there is no requirement to purchase from Dell.  However, purchasers must ensure they achieve value for money and must comply with requirements relating to competitive quotations and tendering.  We also recommend purchasing extended warranty for non-standard models.

Please note: if you experience unacceptable delays with delivery from Dell there is a clause in the current contract whereby UCD can claim damages.  Contact purchasing@ucd.ie if further information required.

HEAnet, in consultation with IT Services, have negotiated as standard for these PC and laptops a 5 years Pro support and next-business-day on-site service.

All PCs and laptops purchased through this framework have a UCD asset label on the outside giving you support information including your warranty details, the MAC address for the computer and the Dell Pro support telephone number.

 

How to buy Apple Computers and other Apple products

The HEAnet Apple Framework was awarded in September 2017.  This framework has drawn 1 supplier for each lot of Apple products and services.  There is the option to buy against any one lot, several lots or all lots.  The pricing structure is agreed, so you just need to email the addresses below, depending on what you want to order.
