Did you know you could install AutoCAD on your laptop for free?
UCD students and staff can now download free full-working versions of AutoCAD and other Autodesk software from the Autodesk Student Community site provided you are a registered student at UCD.
What is AutoCAD?
AutoCAD is a CAD (Computer Aided Design or Computer Aided Drafting) software application for 2D and 3D design and drafting. It is developed and sold by Autodesk and is primarily used in the fields of architecture, construction, civil engineering and mechanical engineering.
Where do you get it?
To get your free software, go to the Autodesk Student Community site and sign-up using the your UCD email address. Your log-in details will be sent to the email address you used to sign-up, once you have them you can log-in and go to the Software Downloads page. There, you will find a long list of downloads.
Try them all if you want but make sure you have a fast Internet connection; some of the downloads are over a gigabyte!
When your software is installed, you will need to register it using the serial number provided to you at the time of download. Don't worry if you lose your serial number, it can be found against the software you downloaded any time you login. Further instructions can be found at the Autodesk Student Community site.
- The Autodesk Student Version software incorporates all the functionality of professional licenses, but includes a print banner that says "PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT", making the software inappropriate for professional, commercial, or for-profit purposes.
- You can download the software from the site as many times as you wish, but you may only activate one at a time on your personal computer.
- It is only permitted on student- and staff-owned hardware and cannot be used on hardware owned by the institution.
- Licenses of Autodesk student software are not eligible for product upgrade or transfer to a commercial license.
