JLPT Frequently Asked Questions

Registration closes on Friday 6th October 2017 at 18:00 (6pm).  However, individual levels may close earlier if the number of applicants reaches the maximum.

It is entirely in “multiple questions - answers” format; where candidates’ kanji, vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening abilities are tested.  There is no interview or oral paper.

The highest level is N 1, and the lowest is N 5.  For more detailed information please see
Note that UCD Japan does not offer a level check for candidates.  Please, consult your teacher for advice.

The exam is held simultaneously, so it is not possible to take more than one level at the same exam session time.

There is no past paper for N3 but you can still use old Level 3 for practice.

UCD Japan does not handle preparatory course information.  To our knowledge, there are no distance-learning courses for JLPT preparation available in Ireland or UK.

Pass rate statistics are available for July 2009 and December 2009.  Other years are not yet available.
