Welcome to UCD LAU GAR KICKBOXING

Covid Update! Our Club has been approved to return to training. At Level 2 or 1 that is at the sports centre in UCD. At Level 3 or higher it is online via Zoom classes held once a week on Tuesdays at 7pm with our two coaches in attendance. (Membership required : €20) All participants (or people interested in joining) must complete a screening form and book in advance for their sessions. The screening form (with all costs and details) is here. If you follow that, it will link you through to the booking system. We have extra gear and sanitising equipment on standby for when we are permitted to return to training in UCD.

The UCD Lau Gar Kickboxing Club is one of the most popular martial arts clubs in the university. We cater for a wide range of interests and levels, from beginners to advanced. We particularly welcome beginners at the start of each term, but you can join up at any time of the year as seniors will always be on hand to help you catch up. Training is based on the traditional Chinese Lau Gar syllabus, with a broad range of options to partipcipate in, including kickboxing, sparring and self-defence. Fighting is not mandatory and we have a range of alternatives available such as circuits, partner work and locks. Each session also includes aerobic/cardio fitness and flexibility too.

Two professional and experienced Lau Gar Ireland instructors facilitate the club during the training sessions. Training is aimed at each individual's level of fitness and aptitude with a view to improvement.

We also teach practical self-defence, which varies from instructor to instructor, so come along to each of our classes and see what you like best. There are several seminars and courses with world-renowned instructors, optional gradings, plus competitions and social events to come to during the year. Check the appropriate link below to keep up to date with the latest goings-on. This year we got in a lot of new gear, so most equipment is provided. Come down to try it out!

The website has been on hiatus for some time now, and most of our current news and activity is posted on Facebook. Feel free to contact us by email, facebook or come along to the sports expo in September or any training and ask us in person. All the senior grades will be happy to help you!

Peter Hornby Class

April 12, 2012

On April the 12th we were delighted to have a class given by Peter Hornby, 6th Degree Black Sash and Lau Gar Guardian.

Mr Hornby flew over specially with his son, Jason Hornby (4th Degree Black Sash) and instructed the club on traditional Lau Gar techniques, the Five Animals of Lau Gar and how to apply the traditional style into competitive kickboxing.

This was a great opportunity for the whole class to learn from this guardian and was appreciated by all. More photos can be seen on facebook here.
