School holds Unilife Summer School
The School of Law recently held a summer school for 40 secondary school students, from 29 different schools (see list below), who are due to sit the Leaving Certificate in 2012. The full-day event gave students the chance to sample what being an undergraduate law student in UCD is like, through a series of talks and seminars and a wide-ranging question and answer session with the academic and administrative staff. The seminars, in particular, gave students some idea of what are the skills of problem-solving and legal analysis which are developed by the courses offered in the School. Students were also briefed on the new law school building (due to open in 2012) and on the extensive opportunities which the School offers for spending a year abroad studying in one of many prestigious universities in Europe, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. The UCD Law Society played an active role in presenting a rounded picture of what life as a law student in UCD is like fpr the students taking part in the summer school. The summer school is an annual event and took place from 9 am to 4pm on 8 June 2011. The feedback on the summer school from the second-level students taking part was generally very positive.
