Brian Hutchinson to address international audiences on arbitration

Brian Hutchinson will give two presentations on online dispute resolution to two major international meetings over the next few months

- one to the European Conference on Cross Border Meditation in Florence and another, in Vienna, to the next meeting of the UNCITRAL Working Group III on Online Dispute  Resolution, which he was recently invited to join in its work on online cross border consumer disputes.

Workshop on Online Dispute Resolution at Major European Mediation gathering

Brian Hutchinson will give an invited workshop on "Online Dispute

Resolution: The Challenges for Mediation" at the European Conference on Cross Border Meditation, to be held in Florence, Italy, on October 20 -21, 2011 under the auspices of the International Mediation Alliance and the European Commission's Civil Justice Programme. Other speakers at the conference will include William Ury, co-founder of the Harvard Program on Negotiation and famous author of the mediation bestseller “Getting to YES” who will deliver the closing address and who will himself be presenting a workshop on negotiation skills in cross border disputes.

United Nations and Online Dispute Resolution procedures

Brian Hutchinson is currently a member of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) Working Group III on Online Dispute Resolution. He was invited to address its meeting at UN Headquarters in New York in May 2011 and was invited to join the Working Group in its work in developing procedures for Online Dispute Resolution of Cross Border Consumer Disputes. The Working Group will continue its work on the procedures, which are based in part on the experiences of the ECODIR project based at UCD, at the UN Office in Vienna in November, 2011.

Other engagements / activities which may be of interest include a lecture at a seminar being organised by the Law Society in Dublin on 26 September 2011 on Reasoned Awards under the new Arbitration Act; and a lecture on International Investment Arbitration at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrator's Inaugural International Young Arbitrators'
